Obverse description Central cross formed by the inscription within a beaded circle, dividing the field into four quarters. The legend reads the joint names of Emperor Conrad II and Archbishop Pilgrim of Cologne, arranged in cruciform fashion. A surrounding circular legend runs between two beaded borders. The lettering is executed in the characteristic Ottonian-Salian hammered style, with slightly irregular but bold characters typical of early 11th-century Rhenish coinage.
