The 1611 issue falls within a period of chronic small-change shortages across the Iberian Peninsula, when municipal and seigneurial mints filled gaps the royal apparatus could not — or would not — address. Cal#916 and Cal#917 represent distinct die varieties of this type, a distinction Calicó documented without resolving the question of whether both varieties were struck in the same emission or represent separate authorizations.
