Reverse description A bold cross pattée dominates the center of the reverse field, its arms extending nearly to the beaded inner border. Small pellets or annulets are placed in the angles formed by the four arms of the cross, a characteristic decorative feature of Barcelona municipal coinage. The surrounding partial legend BARCINO CIVIT, identifying the city of Barcelona, runs along the outer margin. The overall design is typical of the medieval Catalan denier tradition, rendered in the rough, irregular style of hammered copper coinage.
