Reverse description A long cross extending to the edge of the coin divides the field into four quarters, each containing a small annulet in the angle, a device closely associated with the Barcelonese denier series. The royal legend PETR REX, reading 'Peter King,' is distributed across the quarters of the cross and encircled by a surrounding inscription between a plain inner circle and a beaded outer border. The punchwork detailing on the cross arms and the irregular flan are consistent with hammered billon coinage of the reign of Peter II of Aragon (1196–1213).
