| 正面描述 | Within a roughly circular beaded border, the rampant lion of Cyprus faces left in high relief, rendered in the crude hammered style typical of Lusignan coinage. The beast is depicted with forelegs raised and tail curled, filling the central field. The surrounding circular legend reads +PIERE ROI D, identifying the issuer as King Peter II of Cyprus, partially visible on the irregular flan. |

Peter II inherited the Cypriot throne at age thirteen following his father Peter I's assassination in 1369 — a murder carried out by his own nobles, who resented the elder king's aggressive crusading ambitions and the economic strain they imposed on the island. The regency period that followed was politically fractious, and coinage production under Peter II reflects that instability, with significant variation in fabric and striking quality across the series documented by Metcalf.
