| Opis rewersu | A small cross occupies the centre of the flan, its arms dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing letters of the mint inscription arranged around the cross in a distinctive Carolingian manner. The letters are boldly struck in relief and display the angular, uncial character typical of early Carolingian epigraphy. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border following the irregular edge of the flan. This cross-and-legend arrangement is the standard reverse type for Pepin the Short's deniers and serves both a religious and administrative function. |
