| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold crosslet is prominently displayed at the center of the field, its arms rendered in a robust, slightly stylized early Carolingian manner, with pellets or wedge-shaped ornaments accentuating the design. The mint name SVESSION, identifying the Soissons mint, is arranged in a circular legend around the central crosslet, rendered in large, widely spaced Latin capitals. The surrounding beaded border frames the composition, consistent with the hammered denier tradition of the Pepin the Short series. The irregular flan and variable relief are hallmarks of 8th-century Frankish minting practice. |
