Obverse description The obverse displays the royal monogram 'RP' (Rex Pipinus) in large, bold letters occupying the central field, surmounted by a horizontal bar. The monogram is surrounded by a border of raised pellets arranged around the full circumference of the flan, consistent with early Carolingian hammered coinage style. The field is otherwise plain, with the monogram rendered in the characteristic angular interlace typical of Pepin the Short's regal issues.
