Obverse description Plain hammered silver flan of irregular round shape, with a beaded border encircling the central field. The field displays the bold Latin monogram letters R and P in large, interlaced uncial characters, standing for Rex Pippinus (King Pepin). A small pellet or decorative element is visible at the center between the two letters. The die work is characteristic of early Carolingian coinage, with deeply struck but somewhat rough letterforms reflecting the provincial hammer-struck technique of the Nevers workshop.
