| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the royal monogram of Pepin the Short, composed of interlaced Latin letters forming the name PEPINVS REX FRANCORVM, surmounted by a horizontal line. The monogram is rendered in relief in the characteristic Carolingian ligature style, with letters R, P, and F clearly discernible within the design. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with the hand-hammered coinage of the period. No border or peripheral legend is present, the monogram filling nearly the entire die surface. |
