Reverse description Within a beaded border, the mint name MAGONCE (Mainz) is rendered in three abbreviated lines: a cross-pattée above the letter D, followed by the letters MAG arranged prominently across the central field, and .C.S. below, separated by pellets. The bold, irregular Carolingian lettering fills the flan in a monumental style characteristic of early medieval hammered silver deniers.
