| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field dominated by a large, bold royal monogram composed of the letters R and F in interlaced Carolingian script, abbreviating REX FRANCORUM (King of the Franks). The monogram is rendered in high relief with characteristic hammered irregularity. The field is surrounded by a border of pellets arranged in an inner ring, with additional pellets dispersed around the monogram. The flan is slightly irregular and shows typical characteristics of eighth-century Carolingian hand-struck coinage. No portraiture is present, consistent with the epigraphic style introduced under Pepin the Short. |
