| Obverse description | The obverse displays a bold monogram in the center of the field, composed of the letters R and X (Rex), arranged in a combined ligature characteristic of early Carolingian coinage. Flanking the central monogram are pellets disposed symmetrically in the left field, with additional decorative wedge or triangle elements to the right. Above the monogram, a distinctive dumbell or bow-tie shaped ornament is visible. The overall design is executed in a robust, slightly crude hammered style typical of mid-8th century Frankish deniers, with an irregular flan and no surrounding legend on this face. |
