Obverse description Central field dominated by the royal monogram R·P· (Rex Pippinus) formed by interlaced letters R and P with pellet separators, surmounted by a horizontal bar. The monogram is boldly struck in high relief within a beaded border. The composition is strictly geometric and non-figurative, typical of early Carolingian monetary iconography under Pepin the Short.
