| Obverse description | Central plain cross with splayed arms set within a beaded inner circle, the whole surrounded by a circular Latin legend in the field between the beaded circle and the coin's irregular rim. The design follows the standard Carolingian denier type, with the cross serving as the principal device. The lettering is boldly struck in relief, characteristic of mid-ninth-century Aquitainian hammered coinage. |
