Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, the name OTTO is rendered in a monogram form incorporating a long-armed cross with annulets at the terminals, creating a distinctive interlaced design characteristic of Ottonian coinage. A pellet is positioned above the central cross element. The circular legend OTTO IMPERATOR surrounds the inner circle, with the inscription separated by a quatrefoil stop. The overall composition is struck on an irregularly-shaped flan typical of tenth-century hammered silver deniers.
