Reverse description Schematic representation of the Cathedral of Mainz rendered in a highly stylised architectural manner, depicting a facade with a triangular gabled roof surmounted by a cross finial, flanking towers or pilasters, and a central doorway enclosing a small crosslet. Below the building, three circular globules or O-shapes appear in the lower field. The circumferential legend, separated from the central device by a beaded border, identifies the mint city. The entire design reflects the characteristic Ottonian cathedral-type reverse employed at the Mainz imperial mint.
