Obverse description A plain cross enclosed within a beaded inner circle, radiating arms toward the border. The imperial legend OTTO INPERATOR is distributed around the periphery in retrograde or irregular Latin lettering, characteristic of the crude hammered coinage of the Ottonian period. The overall fabric is irregular and the flan exhibits typical edge irregularities consistent with hand-struck medieval silver deniers.
