Obverse description Epigraphic type obverse featuring the mint name of Strasbourg rendered in bold, blocky Carolingian capital letters arranged across the field in two horizontal lines, reading ARGENTINAVCIVITAS with the letter O above and P below. The inscription is contained within a beaded or cable border following the irregular flan edge. The lettering is characteristic of Carolingian episcopal coinage, deeply struck with broad, angular letterforms typical of early tenth-century Rhenish minting practice.
