Denier of Piedmont - Amadeus V

Amadeus V inherited a fragmented Savoyard domain and spent much of his reign consolidating authority across the Alpine passes — the deniers struck under his authority were not merely monetary instruments but administrative assertions, circulating through territories where his control was still being negotiated by force and treaty. His 1307 acquisition of the Barony of Vaud significantly expanded the coin's circulation zone.

The issue predates the Savoyard adoption of the groat-weight standard, placing it at the tail end of a denier tradition that would largely give way to heavier denominations within a generation of Amadeus's death in 1323.
