Obverse description Central ODO monogram composed of interlaced letters within a plain inner field, surmounted by a small pattée cross at the top of the monogram. The monogram is enclosed by a pearled circle, beyond which the circular legend radiates outward with bold Carolingian letterforms. The overall design follows the established Carolingian royal denier tradition, with the royal name rendered as a cipher rather than a portrait.
