| Obverse description | Central city gate of Genoa depicted in architectural elevation, with a star in the field below the gateway arch. The gate motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, interrupted at the base. A clockwise legend in uncial Latin characters runs from the lower left, reading K : REX : F : D : IAN, abbreviating the title of Charles VI as King of France and Lord of Genoa. The overall design is characteristic of the crudely struck hammered billon issues of the Genoese French protectorate period. |
