Obverse description Central city gate of Genoa depicted in architectural elevation, with a star in the field below the gateway arch. The gate motif is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, interrupted at the base. A clockwise legend in uncial Latin characters runs from the lower left, reading K : REX : F : D : IAN, abbreviating the title of Charles VI as King of France and Lord of Genoa. The overall design is characteristic of the crudely struck hammered billon issues of the Genoese French protectorate period.

Reverse description A long cross pattée extends to the legend, dividing the field into four quadrants and intersecting a beaded inner circle. A small fleur-de-lis is placed in the quadrant corresponding to the letters CO of the legend, serving as a symbol of French royal authority under Charles VI. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin reads CONRADVS, invoking the traditional Genoese coinage type in the name of Conrad, the nominal Hohenstaufen overlord whose name was retained by convention on Genoese deniers through successive administrations. The die work is characteristic of the irregular hammered style typical of late 14th- to early 15th-century Genoese billon minor coinage.
