Obverse description The city gate of Genoa (castello) depicted in low relief within a beaded or reeded inner circle, rendered in the crude, stylized manner typical of late medieval Genoese billon minuto coinage. The gateway features a central arched portal flanked by two towers, a design inherited from the Genoese civic tradition and serving as the principal civic emblem of the Republic. The surrounding legend, disposed in abbreviated uncial characters, references the name and title of the doge Agostino Adorno. The overall strike is irregular and flat, consistent with hand-hammered production on a roughly prepared planchet.
