Meinhard III ruled Görz during a period when the county was actively consolidating its hold over Tyrolean trade routes, and the Lienz mint served as a practical instrument of that ambition — coinage struck there circulated through Alpine passes carrying goods between Italy and the German lands. His son Meinhard II would eventually absorb Tyrol outright in 1271, making these deniers early artifacts of a dynasty on the verge of its greatest territorial expansion.
