Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of Hungary within a beaded inner circle, combining the Hungarian fesses and the apostolic double cross, with the date of issue inscribed across the shield. The Latin legend surrounds the shield along the outer border, reading MAX. II. D. G. E. RO. I. S. AV. G. HV. B. R., abbreviating Maximilian II's full royal and imperial titles. The die-hammered surfaces are irregular in outline, typical of mid-16th-century Hungarian coinage, with letters and charges showing the characteristic bold but uneven strike of the period.
