| Obverse description | Central field displays a lion passant to the right in a primitive Romanesque style characteristic of mid-13th century feudal coinage, its body rendered in low relief with a curving tail raised above the haunches. A crescent or similar heraldic device appears in the upper left field. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with a further beaded outer border following the irregular flan edge. The workmanship is typical of hammered baronial deniers of the Lorraine region. |
