| Obverse description | Central field bearing the initial H surmounted by the legend IMPERATOR, all executed in rudimentary relief characteristic of 12th-century Lucchese hammered billon coinage. The lettering is arranged in two lines across the flan, referencing the Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI under whose nominal authority the commune struck this issue. The flan is irregular and slightly cusped at the corners, reflecting the hand-struck production technique typical of medieval Italian denari. Surface shows dark patination consistent with billon alloy and extended circulation. |
