| Obverse description | Central plain cross with pellets in two quarters, all within a beaded inner circle. The royal legend encircles the design in the outer field, rendered in crude Carolingian majuscules characteristic of late ninth- to early tenth-century Lotharingian coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, typical of the hammered technique of the period. |
