| Descrizione del dritto | Carolingian royal monogram of Louis II occupying the central field, composed of interlaced letters in the characteristic Carolingian cipher style, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is boldly struck in high relief typical of ninth-century hammered silver coinage. The surrounding legend reads ✠ GRΛTIΛ DI- REX, distributed around the periphery between the beaded circle and the coin's irregular edge, invoking the king's divine mandate. The lettering is rendered in angular Carolingian majuscules with characteristic ligatures. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with hand-struck production of the period. |
