| Beschrijving keerzijde | The mint name QVENTOVICVS is rendered in two lines of large, well-spaced capital letters across the flat field, divided horizontally at mid-flan with QVENTO on the upper line and VICVS on the lower, separated by a central pelleted point. The legend identifies the issuing mint of Quentovic, an important Carolingian emporium on the Channel coast. The field is plain and undecorated, consistent with the standard reverse type of Carolingian palace-reform deniers. A toothed border surrounds the entire design, visible around the irregular circumference of the hammered flan. |
