Louis I of Hungary assumed the Polish throne in 1370 following the death of Casimir III — his maternal uncle — who died without a legitimate male heir. The Kraków mint operated under Hungarian administrative oversight during this period, and Louis extracted significant concessions from Polish nobles, including the Privilege of Koszyce in 1374, which dramatically reduced noble tax obligations in exchange for their acceptance of his daughter's succession.
The reign lasted only twelve years on Polish soil, and mintage was accordingly limited. Kop#345 is among the scarcer denier attributions from this interregnum period.
