| Beschrijving keerzijde | A stylized temple façade with four columns raised on two steps, surmounted by a cross above the pediment, with a second cross depicted in the central intercolumniation of the temple. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded circle, with the surrounding legend filling the outer field. The architectural motif is rendered in the schematic, symbolic manner characteristic of Carolingian monetary iconography, evoking the Christian church and echoing the earlier Christiana Religio coinage tradition. The bold, widely spaced lettering of the reverse legend is typical of the imperial denier series struck under Louis the Pious. |
