| Obverse description | Central plain cross set within a beaded inner circle, with a single pellet positioned in the second quarter of the cross. The surrounding field carries the imperial legend in bold Carolingian majuscules arranged around the periphery. A small cross precedes the legend, which reads HLVDOVVICVS IMP, identifying the ruler as Louis the Pious, Emperor. The flan is characteristically irregular in shape, as typical of Carolingian hammered coinage of this period. |

| Reverse description | The reverse bears a two-line inscription reading CAMA / RACVS across the field, separated by a central pellet, denoting the mint city of Cambrai (Cameracus in Latin). The lettering is rendered in large, bold Carolingian capital script filling virtually the entire flan without any enclosing circle or border, a standard layout for Carolingian mint-name reverses of this type. The surface is characteristically flat and granular, consistent with hammered silver production of the early ninth century. |
