Obverse description Central plain cross with pellets in each of the four quarters, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding field is bordered by a continuous outer beaded circle, within which the royal legend is distributed. The die engraving is characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage, with bold, slightly irregular letterforms typical of the period.
