Reverse description A stylized temple or church façade is depicted at center, rendered with four columns flanking a central cross, the structure surmounted by a crosslet finial, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. This monumental device is a conventional Carolingian mint representation evoking the ecclesiastical authority of the city of Metz. The surrounding annular legend identifies the mint city in Carolingian majuscules, preceded by a cross. The die work is bold and consistent with the established Metz mint style of the mid-ninth century.
