| 表面の説明 | Central field features a lozenge (rhombus) with ornate curled or voluted angles, each angle adorned with a pellet, forming a decorative quadrilobe motif enclosed within a beaded inner circle. Four additional pellets are placed in the angles between the lozenges curled terminals. The surrounding legend, introduced by a cross pattée, runs clockwise in the outer field between the inner beaded border and the irregular flan edge. |

Lothair II inherited the West Frankish throne at age thirteen in 954, immediately dependent on the great magnates — above all Hugh the Great, then his son Hugh Capet — who effectively controlled the kingdom while the young king's authority remained nominal for years. The Mâcon mint operated under comital authority throughout this period, its output reflecting the progressive fragmentation of Carolingian royal coinage as local lords asserted tighter control over minting rights. By Lothair's reign, the distinction between royal and comital issues from Burgundian mints had grown deliberately blurred.
