| 裏面の説明 | The mint name TVRONES (Tours) is rendered in two horizontal lines across the coin's field, divided as TYRO / NES, in large, bold capital Latin letters filling the entire flan. A plain linear border runs around the circumference. The straightforward two-line mint-name arrangement is characteristic of Carolingian deniers struck at the Tours mint during the reign of Lothair I. |

Lothair I struck coins in his capacity as sub-king of Aquitaine before his rebellion against his father Louis the Pious fractured the Carolingian empire into open civil war. The years 830–833 bracketed two successive revolts, during the second of which Louis was actually deposed and held captive — making the precise dating of any coin to one administrative moment versus another nearly impossible.
Tours held particular monetary weight in this period, its mint having functioned continuously since Merovingian times and retaining enough institutional inertia to keep striking under whichever Carolingian claimant held nominal authority in the region.
