| Beschrijving keerzijde | The mint name DORESTAD is distributed across the field in three horizontal lines of Latin capitals, filling the entire reverse without a surrounding border other than a faint inner circle. The lettering is broadly and somewhat crudely rendered, typical of the Dorestad workshop output during the reign of Lothair I. The arrangement of the mint name in multiple lines is a hallmark of Carolingian deniers attributable to this important trading emporium on the Rhine. Minor flatness and weak striking are visible in the lower portion of the flan. |
