Reverse description Stylised bust of King Lothair facing left, rendered in a schematic, linear fashion typical of late Carolingian feudal coinage. The portrait is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the surrounding legend ✠ LODARIVS REX identifying the Frankish king. The effigy displays the king's head with rudimentary facial features, consistent with the debased artistic conventions of provincial tenth-century minting at Troyes. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, as is common for hammered issues of this period.
