Demmin's civic coinage emerged from the town's position within the Hanseatic commercial network, where local billon issues filled the gap left by the chronic shortage of small-denomination silver in the southern Baltic region. The Dann Po references distinguish at least two die variants of this type, suggesting sustained if modest production across the period.
