| Obverse description | Three conjoined towers arranged in a triangular composition occupy the central field, the middle tower rising taller than its two flanking counterparts. Below the tower group, a trefoil clover ornament is positioned between two stylized leaves, serving as a decorative base to the architectural motif. The relief is bold yet characteristically crude, consistent with Hungarian hammered medieval coinage of the late Árpád period. The field is otherwise plain, with no surrounding legend or inscription. |

Ladislaus IV — known as "the Cuman" — ruled Hungary under the persistent influence of his mother's Cuman steppe heritage, which ultimately drove him into open conflict with the papacy and his own nobility. His refusal to abandon Cuman customs and allies led Pope Nicholas IV to declare a crusade against him in 1287, a remarkable designation for a sitting Christian king. Ladislaus was assassinated by Cuman chieftains in 1290, ending his turbulent reign and the Árpád dynasty's direct male line within two years.
