Ladislaus II ruled Poland for less than a decade before his own brothers forced him into exile in 1146 — earning him the epithet "the Exile" — after which he spent the remainder of his life at the court of Conrad III attempting, unsuccessfully, to reclaim the Polish throne. His coinage from Kraków is consequently among the shortest-lived issues of the Piast dynasty.
The Kop#53 reference places this piece within Kopicki's classification of early medieval Polish deniers, a series notorious for attribution difficulties due to inconsistent die workmanship at Kraków during this period.
