Ladislaus II Jagiellon came to the Polish throne through the Union of Krewo in 1385, converting from Lithuanian paganism to Christianity as a condition of his marriage to Queen Jadwiga and his coronation. The deniers struck under his long reign at Kraków represent one of the more administratively complex coinage programs of medieval Central Europe — the kingdom was simultaneously managing Lithuanian monetary traditions, Teutonic border pressures, and the aftermath of Grunwald in 1410, where the decisive defeat of the Teutonic Knights reshaped the region's political economy entirely.
