Ladislaus I reunified a fragmented Poland after nearly a century of Piast dynastic division, and his Kraków mint was central to that project. The denier issues of his reign represent the first royal coinage struck from Kraków following its re-establishment as the kingdom's capital — a status the city had lost during the period of provincial fragmentation.
