Denier - Ladislaus I

Ladislaus I ruled Hungary during a period of acute dynastic instability, having seized the throne from his cousin Salomon in a civil conflict that drew in both the Holy Roman Empire and the papacy. His subsequent canonization in 1192 — over a century after his death — reflected a deliberate political project by Béla III to anchor Árpád legitimacy in sanctified kingship. The deniers struck under Ladislaus belong to Hungary's earliest coherent royal coinage tradition, itself only a century old at the time of his reign.
