| Obverse description | Crude facing bust of Duke John I, turned slightly to the left, rendered in the characteristic 'kopje' (small head) style typical of Brabantine deniers of this period. The effigy is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the ducal legend distributed around the periphery in uncial letterforms. The overall execution is typical of hammered medieval coinage, with somewhat irregular strike and planchet. |
