The joint coinage of Otto IV, Otto V, and Albert III reflects the Ascanian practice of collective rule among co-inheriting brothers — a dynastic arrangement that produced some of the most administratively complex governance in thirteenth-century Brandenburg. The three Ottonians shared the margraviate following the division of territories after their father's death, yet struck unified coinage to project coherent authority.
