Additional information

The joint coinage of Otto IV, Otto V, and Albert III reflects the Ascanian practice of collective rule among co-inheriting brothers — a dynastic arrangement that produced some of the most administratively complex governance in thirteenth-century Brandenburg. The three Ottonians shared the margraviate following the division of territories after their father's death, yet struck unified coinage to project coherent authority. Brandenburg deniers of this period are notoriously difficult to attribute precisely, as die production was decentralized and documentary evidence for specific mint sites remains fragmentary. Bahrf#254 anchors the attribution, but the five-year window reflects genuine scholarly uncertainty about sequencing within the joint reign.
