Obverse description Facing crowned bust of John of Brienne, King of Jerusalem, rendered in a crude but characteristic Crusader style. The royal effigy is depicted full-face within a circular beaded inner border, the crown visible above the head with stylized hair or mail flanking the face. The surrounding Latin legend reads + IOHΛNNЄS RЄX, identifying the issuer as King John. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped at the edges, consistent with hammered billon coinage of the period.
